SPRINGFIELD, MA – Tim Deegan (Levittown, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) tossed a five-hit complete game, but the Pace University baseball team wound up on the wrong end of a pitcher's duel, falling 1-0 to the American International Yellow Jackets on Saturday afternoon.
The Setters are now 11-20 overall, 5-15 in the Northeast-10 Conference, and 4-8 in the Southwest Division. The Yellow Jackets are 13-22 overall, 6-17 in the NE-10, and 5-8 in divisional play.
AIC tallied the lone run of the game in the second inning when Justin Carey singled in Tyler Geffert from third.
From there both pitchers were dominant. Deegan surrendered just one run on five hits, striking out three while authoring his first complete game of the year, lowering his ERA to 1.89. Unfortunately for the Pace, Harrison Paige tossed a complete game, shutout, scattering six hits and striking out three.
Inclement weather forced the postponement of the second game of the scheduled twinbill. The two teams will pay a doubleheader in Springfield starting tomorrow at noon.
