PLEASANTVILLE, NY- Chris Gili (Manorville, NY/Eastport-South Manor) (Manorville, NY/Eastport-South Manor) drove in three runs as the Setters cruised past the Post University Eagles 9-1 in non-conference action. The Setters improve to 11-18 on the season, while the Eagles fall to 13-17.
The Setters jumped out in front with seven runs in the first three innings. Tom Midolo (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) blasted a solo homerun in the opening inning. Pace added two in the second as Domenick Luongo (Darien, CT/Cardinal Spellman) (Darien, CT/Cardinal Spellman) tripled in the first run of the frame, while Gili put the Setters up 3-0 with an RBI groundout.
Pace added to their lead in the third as Luongo lifted a sacrifice fly, while Gili capped the inning with a two-run double as the Setters extended to a 7-0 advantage. Post got a run back in the fourth but the Setters tacked on two more in the sixth. Midolo singled home a run in the inning, while James Pjura (Shelton, CT/Shelton) (Shelton, CT/Shelton) added a run scoring single to wrap up the scoring in the game.
For the Setters, Gili went 3-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored, while Pjura went 3-for-5 with a double and a triple in the game. Mike Sweeney (Wayne, NJ/DePaul Catholic) (Wayne, NJ/De Paul Catholic) got his first win of the season, going five innings, allowing one run on three hits and struck out four. Three pitched combined for the final four shutout innings without allowing a hit as Anthony Rocco (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial), Samuel Gaitan (Forest Hills, NY/St. Francis Prep) (Forest Hills, NY/St. Francis Prep) and Tom McIntosh (Stamford, CT/Stamford) kept the Eagles off the board the rest of the way.
The Setters travel to New Haven on Wednesday, April 23 for an Northeast-10 Southwest Division game at 3:30 pm.
