ALBANY, NY- Jeane Drury (Flanders, NJ/Morris Catholic High School) (Flanders, NJ/Morris Catholic) went 2-for-5 with two triples and five RBI as the Setters rallied past the Saint Rose Golden Knights 9-4 in Northeast-10 Southwest Division action.
The Setters improve to 10-17 and 5-4 in the Southwest Division, while the Golden Knights fall to 7-15 and 2-4 in division play.
Pace got on the board in the third inning for an early 1-0 lead. Saint Rose rallied with a three-run homerun in their half of the third and added a run in the fourth for a 4-1 lead.
The Setters got the bats going in the seventh as Drury pulled Pace to within a run with a two-run triple. Natalie Gellos (Seattle, WA/Holy Names Academy) (Seattle, WA/Holy Names Academy) tied the game at 4-4 with a single to score Drury to force extra innings.
The score remained tied until the tenth when the Setters broke the game open with five runs. Pace took a two-run lead behind RBI singles by Alicia Marino (Mahopac, NY/Pleasantville) (Mahopac, NY/Pleasantville) and Lana Buchbinder (San Francisco, CA/George Washington) (San Francisco, CA/George Washington). Drury broke it open with a base-clearing triple to put the Setters up by five runs. Kaitlynn Nelson (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) capped off her stellar relief outing as she retired the side in order to wrap up their victory for the Setters.
For Pace, Drury went 2-for-5 with five RBI, while Kimberly Duffy (North Babylon, NY/North Babylon) (North Babylon, NY/North Babylon) went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and Shelby Yung (Upland, CA/Upland) (Upland, CA/Upland) went 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Caitlin McCann (San Mateo, CA/Notre Dame) got the start, going five innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits and struck out five. Nelson (4-7) got the win in relief, going five scoreless innings, allowing one hit and struck out four.
The Setters return home for a Southwest Division three-game series against the American International Yellow Jackets this weekend. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday at noon and a single game on Sunday at 12 pm.
