PLEASANTVILLE, NY – Freshman Shanice Allen (Riverhead, NY/Riverhead) (Riverhead, NY/Riverhead) led the Pace University women's basketball team with 12 points as the Setters were upended by the American International Yellow Jackets 65-49 in a Northeast-10 Conference contest.
Junior Shanice Maynard (Camden, NJ/Woodrow Wilson / Coppin State) (Camden, NJ/Woodrow Wilson) contributed nine points and a team leading 11 rebounds. Sophomore Rachel Dortch (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington) (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington) had 10 points and junior Margo Hackett (Pawling, NY/Pawling) had nine points, six rebounds, and a career-high six assists.
After Pace (4-17, 3-12 NE-10) fell behind 18-10 with 8:00 remaining in the first period, the Setters went on a 10-3 run, fueled by eight points from Allen to slice the gap to 21-20 with 5:31 to go in the frame. The Yellow Jackets (15-7, 9-7 NE-10) would score 14 of the final 18 points of the half, however, to take a 35-24 lead into halftime.
Pace opened up the second half on a 7-2 run to close to within 37-31 on a free throw by Dortch just more than three minutes in. American International would recover and pull away for the victory.
The Setters are in action next on Wednesday, February 12, when they host The College of Saint Rose at 5:30 pm.
