GARDEN CITY, NY- Denzel Primus-Devonish (Riverdale, MD/St. John's College) (Riverdale, MD/St. John's College) netted a game-high 19 points as the Setters pulled to within a game of the final playoff spot in the Northeast-10 Southwest Division. Pace improves to 7-18 overall and 5-14 in the NE-10, while the Panthers fall to 5-20 and 3-16 in conference play.
The Setters raced out to a 20-3 lead over the first 12 minutes of play as Pace limited the Panthers to 1-for-18 shooting over that stretch. Adelphi rallied as they closed to within eight points at 27-19 with 2:45 left in the game. Primus-Devonish hit a pair at the line, while Kai Smith (Upper Marlboro, MD/St. Mary's Ryken) (Upper Marlboro, MD/St. Mary's Ryken) drained a trifecta to put the Setter lead to 13 at 32-19 with 2:26 to play. Pace headed into halftime with a double-digit lead at 32-22.
Pace built on their halftime lead, pulling ahead by as much as 26 points at 52-26 midway through the second half. The Setters were paced by 52.2% shooting in the final 20 minutes as Pace pulled to within a game back of American International for the final playoff spot in the NE-10 Championship.
For the Setters, Primus-Devonish led the way with his game-high point total along with six rebounds and three assists. Smith added 16 points, six rebounds and five assists, while Jonathan Merceus (Union, NJ/Union) (Union, NJ/Union) totaled 16 points and eight boards. Jamaal James (Brooklyn, NY/Brooklyn College Academy) posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Setters wrap up the regular season on Tuesday, February 25 as they host the Le Moyne Dolphins at the Goldstein Fitness Center at 7:30 pm
