WEST HAVEN, CT – Senior forward Jamaal James (Brooklyn, NY/Brooklyn College Academy) (Brooklyn, NY/Brooklyn College Academy) had a double-double with 13 points and a career-high 14 rebounds as the Pace University men's basketball team fell to the New Haven Chargers 75-52 in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup.
Seniors Jonathan Merceus (Union, NJ/Union) (Union, NJ/Union) and Denzel Primus-Devonish (Riverdale, MD/St. John's College) (Riverdale, MD/St. John's College) and sophomore Jaylen Mann (Youngstown, OH/Liberty) had nine points each.
Pace (6-17, 4-13 NE-10) fell behind early trailing 28-11 with 7:38 remaining in the first half before jumping on a 7-0 run to slice the New Haven (17-7, 12-6 NE-10) lead to 10 at 28-18 on a Mann three-pointer at the 5:45 mark. The Chargers and Setters would play evenly through the remainder of the frame as UNH took a 37-27 lead into the locker room.
New Haven started the second half well and a layup by Jonny Ocasio made it 50-38 before James scored six of the next eight points in the contest to cut the Chargers lead into single digits. New Haven responded with a 16-0 run, however, to pull away.
The Setters return to action on Wednesday, February 19 when they face off against Southern Connecticut in New Haven, CT at 7:30 pm.
