GOFFSTOWN, NH –
Alyssa Marchino had 10 kills and 18 digs and
Macey Danker recorded 14 kills as the Pace University women's volleyball team concluded their season with a 3-1 loss at Saint Anselm in a Northeast-10 match on Saturday afternoon by scores of 22-25, 26-24, 22-15, 16-25.
After dropping a tight first set, the Setters (4-23, 1-13 NE-10) found themselves locked in an equally close second set. Trailing 21-20, Pace knotted things at 21-all when
Brittani Muller recorded a kill off a set by
Miki Carver. The Setters would take the lead on a kill by
Sydney Lecker, one of nine on the day for the freshman, coming from a feed by
Nicolette Illuzzi. That began a string of four points in a row set up by Illuzzi as the two teams exchanged points until Pace had a 25-24 lead. The Setters put the match away when Carver set up Marchino for a kill to win the second frame 26-24.
The third set was equally close as neither team held more than a three point lead. Up 17-16, Pace extended to a 19-16 advantage on back-to-back service aces by Carver. The Hawks (14-12, 6-8 NE-10) rallied, however, eventually claiming the set by a 25-22 count.
