KINGSTON, RI- The Pace Men's Basketball team opened their 2014-15 season with a 94-54 loss to Division I University of Rhode Island Rams. The Setters open the season at 0-1, while the Rams improve to 1-0.
The Setters jumped out to a quick 2-0 as
Khalil Brown connected on a jumper in the second minute of play. The Rams answered with the next 11 points to pull ahead by nine.
Pace rallied behind five points from
Shelton Mickell with
Kyle Pearson capping it with as jumper to pull the Setters to within five points at 14-9 with 12:26 left in the half. The Rams netted the next 15 points to push their lead into double figures. Rhode Island took a 51-22 lead into halftime.
For the Setters, Pearson led the way with 17 points and eight rebounds, while Mickel also reached double figures with 10 points along with four boards and three assists.
Bryan Rivers chipped in seven points, three rebounds and four assists.
The Setters head to the St. Thomas Aquinas Tournament this weekend as they open play on Saturday against Molloy at 6:00 pm.
