COLCHESTER, VT- Kai Smith (Upper Marlboro, MD/St. Mary's Ryken) (Upper Marlboro, MD/St. Mary's Ryken) posted a career-high 12 rebounds but the Setters fell to the Purple Knights of St. Michael's College 95-71 in Northeast-10 Conference action.
The Setters fall to 3-15 overall and 1-11 in the NE-10, while the Purple Knights improve to 12-5 and 7-5 in conference play.
Pace held a slim 10-8 lead on a bucket by Jonathan Merceus (Union, NJ/Union) (Union, NJ/Union) at the 15:20 of the opening half. The Purple Knights tied the score at a minute later, scoring 41 of the next 51 points to take a 49-22 lead at the break. St. Michael's maintained their lead into the second half to take the win.
Denzel Primus-Devonish (Riverdale, MD/St. John's College) become the fourth player in school history to dish out 400 career assists as it came at the 4:41 mark of the second half on a Merceus basket. Primus-Devonish also joins Todd Ziogas (1994-99) as only the second player in school history to total 1,000 points, 400 assists and 100 steals for a career.
For the Setters, Smith finished with a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds, while Merceus tallied 22 points, eight boards and three assists. Primus-Devonish finished with nine points and three steals.
The Setters continue their road trip as they travel to Worcester, MA on Tuesday, January 28 for the NE-10 match-up against Assumption College at 7:30 pm.
