PLEASANTVILLE, NY – The Pace University women's basketball team fought back from a seven-point deficit midway through the second half to knot the game with just over five minutes remaining, but were outlasted by the Franklin Pierce Ravens 64-57 in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup on Wednesday night.
Sophomore forward Yuni Sher (Poughkeepsie, NY/Long Island Lutheran) (Poughkeepsie, NY/Long Island Lutheran) matched a career-high with 17 points. Fellow sophomore Rachel Dortch (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington) (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington) notched 12 in the contest. Freshman Kirsten Dodge (Fabius, NY/Fabius-Pompey) (Fabius, NY/Fabius-Pompey) tied a career-best pulling in nine rebounds.
A defensive first half saw the two teams traded the lead three times and were tied four. Neither team held more than a five point lead, with the Setters (3-14, 2-9 NE-10) taking their largest lead of the half at 14-10 on a three-pointer by Shanice Maynard (Camden, NJ/Woodrow Wilson) with 9:33 remaining. The Ravens (9-7, 5-5 NE-10) battled back from that and took a 26-24 lead into the lockerroom.
In the second half, Franklin Pierce began to pull away, twice opening up a seven-point lead at 39-32 and then again at 48-41 with 9:03 remaining. Pace then went on an 11-4 run during the next 3:45 to tie the game on a three-pointer by Hackett with 5:18 remaining. The Ravens then pulled away with a 10-4 run of their own, scoring eight of their 10 points from the line.
The Setters hit the hardwood next on Saturday, January 25 when they travel to Colchester, VT to take on Saint Michael's. Tip off is scheduled for 1:30 pm.
