MANCHESTER, NH – Senior Denzel Primus-Devonish (Riverdale, MD/St. John's College) (Riverdale, MD/St. John's College) scored a game-high 22 points including hitting his 100th career three-pointer, but a men's basketball second half comeback came up short as the Pace Setters fell to Southern New Hampshire 73-60 in a Northeast-10 Conference tilt.
Senior Jonathan Merceus (Union, NJ/Union) (Union, NJ/Union) had 13 points for the Setters (3-12, 1-8 NE-10). Fellow senior Kai Smith (Upper Marlboro, MD/St. Mary's Ryken) (Upper Marlboro, MD/St. Mary's Ryken) added 11 points. Primus-Devonish also recorded a career-high three blocked shots in the contest.
Pace found themselves down early as the Penmen (8-6, 6-5 NE-10) shot 57.7% from the floor into the opening half. Trailing 59-38 midway through the second stanza, the Setters battled their way back into the game. Sophomore Jaylen Mann (Youngstown, OH/Liberty) hit a layup with 7:20 remaining. That basket sparked a 16-4 run during the next 3:55 to pull Pace within nine points at 63-54 at the 3:55 mark. Primus-Devonish scored the Setters final 14 points in the spurt, including hitting all of his three triples in the contest. The second three-pointer of the stretch with 5:34 remaining was the 100th career trey for the guard, making him the 20th player in Pace history to reach that mark.
The Setters are back in action on January 18 when they host Saint Anselm at 3:30 pm.
