Softball Drops Doubleheader to Caldwell

CALDWELL, N.J.- The Setters dropped a doubleheader to the Cougars of Caldwell College in non-conference action. Caldwell took the opener 15-7 and won in the nightcap 6-0. Pace falls to 14-18 on the season, while Caldwell improves to 35-8.

Caldwell jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a run in the opening inning. The Setters answered in the fourth as Jeane Drury (Flanders, NJ/Morris Catholic High School) (Flanders, NJ/Morris Catholic) put Pace up 2-1 with a two-run homerun. The Cougars rallied with nine runs in the fourth inning to go up 10-2.

Pace put up a five spot in the fifth inning to pull to within three runs. Rachael McMahon (Corona, CA/Esperanza) (Corona, CA/Esperanza) and Drury both had two runs doubles, while Natalie Gellos (Seattle, WA/Holy Names Academy) (Seattle, WA/Holy Names Academy) drove in a run with a single. Caldwell rallied with five runs in their half of the inning.

For Pace, Drury went 2-for-3 with four RBI's in the game, while McMahon scored twice. Kelly Fisher (Castle Rock, CO/Douglas County) (Castle Rock, CO/Douglas County) tossed 3 2/3 innings, allowing 14 runs on 12 hits, while striking out one to fall to 5-7 on the season. Chelsea Shea (Babylon, NY/West Babylon) went the final 2/3 of an inning, allowing one run on two hits.

In the nightcap, the Setters were limited to four hits in the game as Caldwell scored four in the fourth and two in the sixth. Shea (8-9) pitched a complete game, allowing six runs on five hits.

The Setters are back in action on Wednesday, April 24 as they host the Owls of Southern Connecticut for an NE-10 Southwest Division twin bill at 3 pm at Pace Field on the Briarcliff campus.
