SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- Chelsea Shea (Babylon, NY/West Babylon) (Babylon, NY/West Babylon) tossed a three-hitter as the Setters defeated the Yellow Jackets of American International 7-1 in Northeast-10 Southwest Division play. Pace improves to 12-15 overall and 4-9 in the division, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 9-21 overall and 3-9 in division play.
The Setters set the tone early in the game as the scored three times in the opening inning. Pace scored the first run on an error and the second on a passed ball. Jeane Drury (Flanders, NJ/Morris Catholic High School) (Flanders, NJ/Morris Catholic) drove in the third run of the inning with a groundout.
Pace added a pair of runs in the third inning on an Erin Wood (Dover Plains, NY/Dover) (Dover Plains, NY/Dover) RBI single, while Kimberly Duffy (North Babylon, NY/North Babylon) (North Babylon, NY/North Babylon) added another run on a ground out. The Yellow Jackets got a run back in the third but Hana Wright (Hillsboro, OR/Valley Catholic) (Hillsboro, OR/Valley Catholic) provided the Setters with me insurance runs with a two-run homerun in the sixth.
For the Setters, Wright went 2-for-4 in the game, scoring two runs, while Rachael McMahon (Corona, CA/Esperanza) collected two hits in the game. Shea (7-7) tossed a complete game, allowing one run on three hits and struck out four to even her record on the season.
The Setters are back in action on Friday, April 19 when they will host the Greyhounds of Assumption College for a single game at 4:30 pm. Prior to the game, Pace Softball will honor its two seniors for their careers. The game will also be Pace Staff and Faulty Appreciation Day as light refreshments will be served during the game.
