WEST HARRISON, N.Y.- Robert Rizzitelli (Monroe, CT/Masuk) (Monroe, CT/Masuk) allowed four hits in six innings of work as baseball defeated the Spartans of Saint Thomas Aquinas 4-2 in non-conference action. The Setters improve to 2-3 overall, while the Spartans fall to 4-2 on the season.
The Setters did all their scoring in the first two innings of play. Pace got their first two runs in the first innings as Chris Gili (Manorville, NY/Eastport-South Manor) (Manorville, NY/Eastport-South Manor) scored on a wild pitch. Joe Solomeno (Holbrook , NY/Sachem East) (Holbrook, NY/Sachem East) drove in the second run with a single to stake the Setters with a 2-0 lead.
Pace added to their lead in the second as Charlie Galasso (West Harrison, NY/Harrison) (West Harrison, NY/Harrison) drove in a pair of runs with a single as the Setters led 4-0 after two innings of play. The Spartans scored a run in the sixth and the eighth but the Setters' relievers stifled a comeback to give Pace a 4-2 victory.
Rizzitelli (1-1) was outstanding on the mound, tossing six innings and allowing one run on four hits, while striking out eight. Michael Tamburino (Baldwin, NY/Holy Trinity) (Baldwin, NY/Holy Trinity) gave up a run on two hits in 1 1/3 innings of work, while Josh Garran (Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley Regional) earned his first save of the season as he tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings, striking out two.
The Setters are back in action on Sunday, March 10 and travel to Lodi, NJ to face Felician College for a doubleheader starting at 12 pm.
