Wright Hits Two Homeruns as Softball Falls to Adelphi

BRIARCLIFF, N.Y.-  The Setters lost a doubleheader to the Panthers of Adelphi University in Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division action. Adelphi took the opener 12-4 and won the second game by a score of 7-2. Pace falls to 7-6 on the season and 0-3 in the division, while the Panthers improve to 17-6 and 3-0 in division play.

The Setters struck first as Katie Lange (Upland, CA/St. Lucy's Priory) (Upland, CA/St. Lucy's Priory) got Pace on the board with a run scoring single. Hana Wright (Hillsboro, OR/Valley Catholic) (Hillsboro, OR/Valley Catholic) staked the Setters to a 3-0 lead later in the first inning with a two-run homerun. Adelphi answered in the second inning with seven runs backed by a pair of three-run homeruns. Pace got a run back in the second but the Panthers added three runs in the third and four runs in the fourth to take the opener 12-4 in five innings.

Chelsea Shea (Babylon, NY/West Babylon) (Babylon, NY/West Babylon) tossed five innings, allowing 12 runs on 14 hits, while striking out one to fall to 3-3 on the season.

In the nightcap, Kimberly Duffy (North Babylon, NY/North Babylon) (North Babylon, NY/North Babylon) and Wright provided the offense for the Setters as each had a solo homerun in the game for the lone Pace runs. Adelphi plated two runs in the second and three in the third, while scoring two more in the fourth. Duffy's homerun got Pace on the board in the third to lead-off the inning, while Wright's second round-tripper of the day came as she led off the seventh.

On the mound, Kelly Fisher (Castle Rock, CO/Douglas County) (Castle Rock, CO/Douglas County) started, going four innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits and struck out two to fall to 3-2 on the season. Jeane Drury (Flanders, NJ Morris Catholic) came on for the final three innings, allowing four hits.

The Setters are back in action on Friday, March 29 as they will host the Golden Knights of Saint Rose for an NE-10 Southwest Division single game at 4 pm on the Pace Briarcliff campus.
