Setters Split with St. Anselm

Pleasantville, N.Y.- The Setters split wins with the Hawks of Saint Anselm in doubleheader action on Sunday as Pace took the opener, 8-3 but fell in the nightcap, 4-1.  The Setters hold an 11-6 overall and 3-1 Northeast-10 Conference record while the Hawks stand at 7-10-1 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

The Hawks opened up scoring in the second inning on an RBI double but the Setters responded fiercely in the third. Chris Gili (Manorville, NY/Eastport-South Manor) (Manorville, NY / Eastport-South Manor) and Jon Kovel (Schenectady, NY/Scotia Glenville) (Schenectady, NY / Scotia Glenville) both singled before the Hawks walked the next two batters, allowing the first run scored for the Setters. Brandon Martineson (Prospect, KY/Warwick (NY)) (Prospect, KY / Warwick NY) then doubled to right center to bring in two more runs followed by a ground-out from James Pjura (Shelton, CT/Shelton) (Shelton, CT / Shelton) that resulted in another RBI. Ian Wukitsch (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) (Morristown, NJ / Morristown) singled to bring Martineson home before the third out.

Pjura opened the fifth with a triple and scored on a passed ball. The Hawks would match the Setters one run to open the sixth inning before Pace fielded two ground-outs and a strikeout.

The Setters tallied two more runs on two hits in the bottom of the eighth as Kovel and Charlie Galasso (West Harrison, NY/Harrison) (West Harrison, NY / Harrison) contributed RBI's.  The Hawks responded with a run in the ninth but was not enough as the Setters took the opener, 8-3.

Martineson finished with two RBI's while Gili went 3-for-4 and scored two runs.  Jonathan Chudy (Goshen, NY/Goshen) (Goshen, NY / Goshen) struck out seven batters in six innings pitched for the win which brings him to 2-1 on the season.  Dylan Mouzakes (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollow Hills) (Dix Hills, NY / Half Hollow Hills) is credited with his first save of the year on two strikeouts in three innings on the mound.

The night cap went scoreless in the first four innings before Pace managed to score a run in the fifth inning.  Pace managed to maintain that lead for two innings but the Hawks took that away from them in the seventh inning to make the score 2-1.  Saint Anselm added two more runs to their lead in the eighth to cap game scoring out and solidify their win, 4-1.

Michael Tamburino (Baldwin, NY/Holy Trinity) (Baldwin, NY / Holy Trinity) pitched a no-hitter through six innings and faced three batters in the seventh where he was replaced by Ryan Mihalkovitz (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) (Toms River, NJ / Toms River North).  Robert Perez (Bronx, NY/Trinity Pawling) (Bronx, NY / Trinity Pawling) and Mike Sweeney (Wayne, NJ / DePaul Catholic) also saw time on the mound.

The Setters will host New Haven on Wednesday, March 27 for a 3:30 pm conference match-up.
