Hounds Out-Last the Setters, 61-51

Pleasantville, N.Y.-Brittany Shields (Cold Spring, NY / Haldane) recorded a double-double as the Setters dropped to the Greyhounds of Assumption College, 61-51.  The Setters go into their last regular season game at 13-12 overall and 11-10 in the Northeast-10 Conference while the Greyhounds advance to 19-6 overall and 16—5 in the NE-10.

Shields led the Setters with 17 points and 14 rebounds as the Setters hosted senior day at their last home of the regular season.  Allison Cleary (New Windsor, NY/Cornwall Central) (New Windsor, NY / Cornwall Central) tallied nine points, five rebounds and four assists while Jessica Scannell (Cork, Ireland/St. Vincents) (Cork, Ireland / St. Vincents) contributed seven points, four assists, three rebounds, two blocks and a pair of steals.

Gabrielle Gibson led the Greyhounds with 18 points, six rebounds and three assists while Sabrina Siciliano finished with 13 points on 8-11 shooting, six rebounds and three steals.

Despite the loss, the Setters out-scored the Hounds in the paint 26-24, off of turnovers 13-12 and on second-chance attempts 9-3.  The Setters shot 32.2% from field goal range, 23.1% from three-point range and 76.9% from the free-throw line while the Hounds shot 50% from the field, 44.4% from the outside and 89.5% from the line.

The Setters fell early to the Greyhounds as Assumption started on a 13-2 run in the first five minutes of the game.  The Setters managed to come within ten but the Hounds pulled their largest lead of the half, by 16, with 7:54 in the first half.  Assumption maintained a healthy lead but the Setters were able to pull within a single-digit deficit on a triple by Margo Hackett (Pawling, NY / Pawling) to head into halftime down 25-34.

A few made layups and 5-5 from the free-throw line allowed the Hounds to take their largest lead of the game five minutes into the second half, 45-27.  The Hounds maintained a minimum of a 13 point advantage for most of the second half but two made free-throws by Cleary pulled the Setters within 10 points with 5:51 on the clock.  Shields would help the Setters within eight points with 2:42 to go in regulation but the Hounds drained two free-bees in the final two minutes to hold on and take the win, 61-51.

The Setters will travel to take on the Dolphins of Le Moyne College for their last game of the regular season on Tuesday, February 26 for a 5:30 pm conference match-up.
