Women's Hoops Comes Up Short to Le Moyne

SYRACUSE, NY- The Pace women's basketball team fell in the final minute to the Dolphins of Le Moyne College 54-50 in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon.  

The Setters fall to 0-8 overall and 0-4 in the NE-10, while the Dolphins improve to 7-1 and 3-1 in conference play.

The teams played a close first half that saw a 10-10 tied at the midway point. Pace ripped off the next eight points with six coming by freshman Kirsten Dodge (Fabius, NY/Fabius-Pompey) (Fabius, NY/Fabius-Pompey) as the Setters jumped put to an 18-10 lead. The Dolphins responded to slice the score down to three points but the Setters held a 24-21 lead at the break.

The Setters pushed their first half advantage to 10 points at 36-26 behind a pair of triples from Margo Hackett (Pawling, NY/Pawling) (Pawling, NY/Pawling) 15:13 left in the game. Le Moyne netted the next four points but a trifecta by Lovisa Hagberg (Lidingo, Sweden/Hersby Gymnasium) (Lidingo, Sweden/Hersby Gymnasium) extended it back to nine points with 12:50 left in the game.

Le Moyne rallied to even the score at 41 at the 9:07 mark and took a five point lead with 7:38 remaining in the game. The Setters answered as they pulled even at 50 on a Rachel Dortch (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington) (Columbus, NJ/North Burlington) with 3:21 left in the game. The Dolphins took the lead in the final minute as they went 4-for-4 at the line to take the win by four points.

For the Setters, Hackett led the way with 12 points along with four rebounds, while Dodge finished with eight points and four boards. Yuni Sher (Poughkeepsie, NY/Long Island Lutheran) (Poughkeepsie, NY/Long Island Lutheran) totaled six points and grabbed a team-high nine caroms, while Alexa Dietrich (Queens, NY/Archbishop Molloy) added six points and three assists.

The Setters return to action on Saturday, December 14 as they will host the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College at 1:00 pm at the Goldstein Fitness Center.
