RUTHERFORD, NJ – The Pace University women's basketball team rallied from a halftime deficit to take an early second half lead, but were upended by the Felician Golden Falcons 60-50 in a non-conference contest.
The Setters were led by junior Shanice Maynard (Camden, NJ/Woodrow Wilson / Coppin State) (Camden, NJ/Woodrow Wilson) who had 13 points to go along with six rebounds. Freshman Loren Kaiser (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg) (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg) had nine points. Sophomores Yuni Sher (Poughkeepsie, NY/Long Island Lutheran) (Poughkeepsie, NY/Long Island Lutheran) and Rachel Dortch (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington) (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington) tallied eight points and six boards and seven points and seven rebounds respectively.
Pace started the game strong, opening up a 14-8 lead near the midway mark of the first half. Maynard was key in the early push, scoring nine points during the span. The Golden Falcons came back, ending the half on a 15-6 run to take a 23-22 lead into the lockerroom.
The Setters rallied to open the second half on a 10-3 run in the first five minutes. Defense was a big part of the surge as Pace forced two turnovers and held Felician to 1-for-5 from the field to open the stanza. From there the two teams battled down the stretch before the Golden Falcons opened up a 46-39 lead with 4:04 remaining.
Not done yet, Pace fought their way back as a three-pointer from Jeane Drury (Flanders, NJ/Morris Catholic) and back-to-back layups from Sher (Poughkeepsie, NY/Long Island Lutheran) sliced the lead to 51-48 at the 1:20 mark. Felician pulled away, however, hitting 9-for-10 from the free throw line in the final minute.
The Setters return to action on January 2, 2014, when they face off against Northeast-10 Conference foe Adelphi at the Goldstein Fitness Center at 4:00 pm.
