Beeker Totals Two Touchdowns as Football Ends Season with Loss to LIU Post on Northeast-10 Championship Weekend

BROOKVILLE, NY- Quarterback Brian Beeker (Spring Hill, FL/Springstead) (Spring Hill, FL/Springstead) threw for a touchdown and also rushed for one late in the game as the Setters fell to the Pioneers of LIU Post 62-28 on Northeast-10 Championship Weekend.

The Setters finish their season at 0-11 overall, while the Pioneers end their season at 5-6.

The Pioneers got on the board first with a Matt Brennan touchdown pass early in the games. The Setters answered to even at the game at seven as Beeker led the Pace offense for a score. Beeker connected with Wanye Haynes (Central Islip, NY/Central Islip) for a 22-yard pass play down to the Pioneer four-yard line. Four plays later, Beeker hit Matt Tarpley (Plymouth, MN/Wayzata/Univ. of Mississippi) (Plymouth, MN/Wayzata/Univ. of Mississippi) for a two-yard touchdown as the Setters evened the game at 7-7.

LIU Post's Brennan passed for three touchdowns in the second early in the third quarter as the Pioneers took a 41-7 lead late in the third quarter.

The Setters answered with back to back scores in the final two-plus minutes of the third quarter. Jashon Dawson (Passaic, NJ/Passaic) (Passaic, NJ/Passaic) broke off a 47-yard run for a touchdown. On second play of the ensuing Pioneer possession, Michael Petrizzo (West Hempstead, NY/West Hempstead) (West Hempstead, NY/West Hempstead) intercepted a Brennan pass and returned it 47-yard for a Pace touchdown. It was the first Setters interception return for a touchdown since October, 31, 2009 in a 20-9 win over American International. Late in the fourth quarter, Beeker added a two-yard run for the Setters.

For the Setters, Beeker completed 18-of-39 passes for 122 yards and a touchdown, while rushing for another one. Dawson finished with 93 yards on the ground and one touchdown, while Haynes finished with seven receptions for 31 yards. On defense, Petrizzo led the Setters with 10 tackles and an interception, while Joseph Roman (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph by the Sea) (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph By The Sea) and Joe Camilleri (Saddle Brook, NJ/Saddle Brook) (Saddle Brook, NJ / Saddle Brook) added nine tackles. Tyler Owens (Salem, NJ/Salem) added nine tackles, 0.5 for a loss and five quarterback hurries.
