PLEASANTVILLE, NY- Delaney Wallace (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) scored two first half touchdowns, earning Homecoming MVP honors as the Setters fell to Assumption College 55-21 in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Setters fall to 0-8 overall and 0-7 in the NE-10, while the Greyhounds improve to 5-3 and 5-2 in conference play.
The Setters struck first on their second offensive series as Wallace ran for 29 yards on the second play to get the Pace offense into Assumption territory. Quarterback Brian Beeker (Spring Hill, FL/Springstead) (Spring Hill, FL/Springstead) converted on a key fourth down play as he scampered for 23 yards down to the Greyhound two-yard line. On the next play, Wallace ran it in from two yards out for a 7-0 Pace lead.
Assumption answered on their ensuing drive as quarterback Bobby Jordan connected with DonQuale Williams for a ten-yard score to even the score at seven. The Greyhounds took a seven point lead early in the second quarter as Jordan hit Scott Simonson for a 12 yard touchdown to take a 14-7 lead.
Pace answered on their ensuing possession to pull even at 14. Jashon Dawson (Passaic, NJ/Passaic) (Passaic, NJ/Passaic) had a key 10-yard run early in the drive but following an Assumption penalty, the Setters faced a 4th-and-1 from the Greyhound 47-yard-line. Wallace picked up three yards on the ground to keep the drive alive and Beeker tossed a 39 yard pass to Wanye Haynes (Central Islip, NY/Central Islip) to put the Setter offense in prime position at the Greyhound five yard line. Two plays later, Wallace leaped into the end zone from a yard out to tie the score at 14.
Assumption scored on their ensuing drive and added a pair of late field goals to take a 27-14 lead into halftime. The Greyhounds added four second half touchdowns as Jordan tossed his third score of the day, while running for another score.
The Setters were not done on offense as Beeker led the Setters on a fourth quarter scoring drive. Beeker had a key 13-yard pass to Luiz Ribeiro (White Plains, NY/White Plains) (White Plains, NY/White Plains) early in the drive and Beeker added an 11-yard run later in the drive. Pace capitalized on a pair of Greyhound penalties as the Setters drove down to the Assumption 11-yard-line. Beeker hit Cameron Davis (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL/Providence) (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL/Providence) for an 11-yard touchdown to account for the final Pace points of the afternoon.
For the Setters, Beeker completed 13-of-30 passes for 121 yards and a touchdown, while rushing for 56 yards on the ground. Wallace rushed for 48 yards and two scores, while catching one pass for five yards. Davis led the receivers with four receptions for 25 yards and a touchdown. On defense, Joseph Roman (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph by the Sea) (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph By The Sea) led the way with 10 tackles, nine solo, while Tyler Owens (Salem, NJ/Salem) (Salem, NJ/Salem) added nine, including one for a loss.
Saturday's game was Homecoming 2013 as the Pace Football Alumni returned to campus and the first 1,000 fans received a Pace Athletics scarf. At halftime, the Homecoming King and Queen were announced and the Pace Cheerleaders performed as well.
The Setters are on the road next Saturday, November 2 as they head to Easton, MA for an NE-10 clash against Stonehill College with kick-off scheduled for 12 pm.
