RINDGE, N.H.- The Setters fell to the Ravens of Franklin Pierce 69-60 in overtime in Northeast-10 Conference action. Pace falls to 9-8 on the season and 7-6 in the NE-10, while the Ravens improve to 12-5 overall and 9-4 in conference play.
Both teams got off to cold shooting starts as the Ravens held a 7-6 lead with 13:50 left in the half. The Setters answered with a 21-8 run to pull ahead 27-15 with 5:30 left in the half. Margo Hackett (Pawling, NY/Pawling) (Pawling, NY/Pawling) started and ended the runs with triples, while Jessica Scannell (Cork, Ireland/St. Vincents) (Cork, Ireland/St. Vincent's) also connected on a trifecta in the run. After a Franklin Pierce basket sliced the score down to 27-17, the Setters ripped off the final 11 points of the half and took a 38-17 lead into halftime. Hackett and Scannell finished the half with 10 points, while the Setters shot 51.9% from the field compared to the Ravens 22.6% shooting in the opening half.
Allison Cleary (New Windsor, NY/Cornwall Central) (New Windsor, NY/Cornwall Central) connected on a three-pointer early in the second half to give Pace their largest lead of the game at 43-19 with 18:28 left in the second half. The Ravens rallied in the second half behind hot shooting as they took a 55-52 lead with 2:48 to play in regulation.
Hackett pulled Pace back even with a triple at the 1:47 mark but the Ravens hit a three-pointer with 38 seconds on the clock to retake a three-point lead. In the final seconds of regulation Hackett missed a triple, Brittany Shields (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) grabbed the rebound, kicked it out to Scannell who tied the game at 58 with 6.7 seconds left in the half to force overtime.
In the extra period, Brianna Harris (Brentwood, NY/Mary Louis Academy) gave the Setters an early two-point lead. Franklin Pierce hit a three-pointer to go up 61-60 and went 4-for-4 from the free throw line to extend to a 65-60 lead and held on for the win.
For Pace, Scannell led the Setters with 15 points, four rebounds and three assists. Hackett tallied 13 points and four rebounds, while Shields finished with nine points and eight rebounds.
The Setters hit the road on Tuesday, January 29 as they travel to North Andover, MA for an NE-10 clash against Merrimack College at 5:30 pm.
