Setters Fall to UMass Lowell in Overtime

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- The Pace women's basketball team fell to the River Hawks of UMass Lowell 96-94 in overtime in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Setters fall to 8-7 overall and 6-5 in the NE-10, while the River Hawks improve to 11-4 and 8-3 in conference play.

UMass Lowell jumped out to an 18-5 lead with 12:16 left in the opening half. The Setters rallied back with a 23-10 run as Jessica Scannell (Cork, Ireland/St. Vincents) (Cork, Ireland/St. Vincent's) netted eight points in the run, including a triple and a three-point play, while Margo Hackett (Pawling, NY/Pawling) (Pawling, NY/Pawling) added a three-point play. Jeane Drury (Flanders, NJ/Morris Catholic) (Flanders, NJ/Morris Catholic) pulled the Setters even at 28 with a trifecta with 6:35 left in the half. The teams traded points the rest of the way as Pace took a 41-40 lead into halftime.

Hackett connected on the first six points of the second half, including a pair of three's, as the Setters built a nine point lead at 49-40. The River Hawks rallied back to with s point at 51-50 but Pace extended their lead to 57-50 with 12:35 left in the game. UMass Lowell answered with the next seven points to pull even at 57 near the midway point of the second half.

The game featured nine tied and seven lead changes over the final 10 minutes of regulation. The River Hawks scored on a lay-up with 54 seconds left to take three-point lead at 85-82. Allison Cleary (New Windsor, NY/Cornwall Central) (New Windsor, NY/Cornwall Central) connected on a triple with 33 seconds left to knot the score at 85. UMass Lowell missed on a lay-up and the Setters also missed on a final shot to force overtime. In the extra period, the River Hawks jumped out to a seven-point lead and held off a late Pace run.

Scannell finished with a personal-high of 25 points along with eight rebounds, while Brittany Shields (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) finished with 16 points, six rebounds and five assists. Hackett tallied 17 points, four rebounds and seven steals, while Cleary totaled 11 points, four rebounds and two steals. Drury netted 10 points and five rebounds.

The Setters are back in action on Wednesday, January 23 when they will host the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire at 5:30 pm at the Goldstein Fitness Center.
