PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- Brian Beeker (Spring Hill, FL/Springstead) (Spring Hill, FL / Springstead) tossed a pair of touchdowns as the Setters fell to the Warriors of Merrimack College 63-14 in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Setters fall to 0-5 and 0-4 in the NE-10, while the Warriors improve to 3-2 and 2-2 in conference play.
The Warriors got a pair of first half touchdown passes from Joe Clancy to Isaiah Voegeli and posted three rushing touchdowns in the first 30 minutes of action as they built a halftime lead.
Pace got the offense going on their first possession of the second half as the Setters started their drive from their own six yard. Beeker led the offense out to the Pace 36-yardline and hit Patrick Lupfer (Mineola, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) (Mineola, NY/Kellenberg) a 64-yard catch and run touchdown connection to put the Setters on the board. The Setters struck again late in the fourth quarter as they started again deep on their own territory. Beeker hit Matt Tarpley (Caruthersville, MO/Wayzata/Univ. of Mississippi) on a 47-yard pass connection to get the ball into Merrimack territory. Seven plays later, the Setters faced an 4th down play as Beeker hit Cameron Davis (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL/Providence) (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL/Providence) in the back corner of the end zone as Davis caught the ball and got his feet down for the second score of the day for Pace.
For the Setters, Beeker completed 15-of-27 passing for 213 yards and a pair of scores. Lupfer had a career-day with eight receptions for 109 yards and a touchdown, while Davis finished with four catches for 52 yards and a touchdown. Tarpley hauled in three receptions for 56 yards on the day. Jashon Dawson (Passaic, NJ/Passaic) (Passaic, NJ/Passaic) averaged 5.5 yards a carry and finished with 11 rushes for 61 yards. The Pace defense was led by Vince Romano (Davenport, NY/Oneonta) as he totaled 10 tackles on the day, while Joe O'Rourke (Cornwall, NY/Cornwall Central) (Cornwall, NY/Cornwall Central) and Tyler Zaro (Stamford, CT/Trinity Catholic) (Stamford, CT/Trinity Catholic) each finished with eight total tackles.
The game featured a rousing halftime performance by the Pace University Drum Line in one of their best shows in their two years performing at Pace. The Pace cheerleaders also performed and tossed t-shirts into the crowd during the game. For a second year in a row, Pace Football has teamed up with the Lustgarten Foundation and representatives from the organization were on hand selling items and accepting donations for pancreatic cancer research.
The Setters return to action as they will host the Owls of Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday, October 6 at Pace Field at 1 pm.
