Baseball Shuts Outs Adelphi on Tamburino Two-Hitter

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- Michael Tamburino (Baldwin, NY/Holy Trinity) (Baldwin, NY/Holy Trinity) tossed a two-hit complete game shutout as the Setters downed the Panthers of Adelphi University 8-0.  The Setters advance to 14-10 overall, 6-3 in the Northeast-10 Conference and 5-0 in the NE-10 Southwest, while Adelphi drops to 11-11 overall, 3-6 in conference play and 2-3 in the Southwest.

Tamburino went eight innings allowing just one hit before the second hit came in the ninth with two outs.  He struck out seven Panthers on the day and walked only one.

Joe Lombardi (Briarcliff, NY/Briarcliff) (Briarcliff, NY/Briarcliff) went 3-for-4, scored three runs and tallied two RBI's for the Setters while Chris Roemer (Ardsley, NY/Ardsley) (Ardsley, NY/Ardsley) and Kyle Turnier (Waterford, CT/Waterford) (Waterford, CT/Waterford) both had two hits and two RBI's apiece.

Chris Matteo and Chad Houghton were the two players on Adelphi to connect the bat and ball.  Michael Carletti tossed for six innings and allowed five hits, five runs, struck out four and walked two.  John Donnelly pitched an inning to allow one run as Mike Cranston also pitched an inning but let up two runs and three hits.

Pace got on the board on a homer by Joe Solomeno (Holbrook , NY/Sachem East) (Holbrook, NY/Sachem East) that brought James Pjura (Shelton, CT/Shelton) (Shelton, CT/Shelton) around the bases as well.  Robert Horn (Stamford, CT/Westhill) doubled in the fifth inning and stole third with only one out.  A single to left field by Roemer brought Horn home as the Setters took a 3-0 lead.

The Setters saw the most action in the seventh as Lombardi opened it up with a double.  Chris Gili (Waccabuc, NY/Eastport-South Manor) (Waccabuc, NY/Eastport-South Manor) reached first on a fielding error by the second baseman which allowed Lombardi to reach third.  Horn then flied out to center field but Roemer singled to bring Lombardi across home plate.  Gili and Roemer advanced bases to second and third on a wild pitch before Patrick Chaputian (Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore) walked.  Turnier tallied two RBI's on a double to center field.

The Setters were able to tack on some runs in the eighth inning as Gili and Horn both recorded RBI's to solidify the win.  Pace culminated the inning with three hits, two runs and one batter left on base.

The Setters host Nyack College in a non-conference matchup on April 4th at 3:00 pm at Finnerty Field.
