Wright Ties Single Season Homerun Record in Game 1
MANCHESTER, N.H.- The Pace Softball team dropped a doubleheader to Southern New Hampshire in their regular season finale in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Penmen took the opener 5-1 and won game two 2-1. The Setters fall to 28-20 overall and 15-15 in the NE-10, while the Penmen improve to 27-15 and 17-9 in conference play.
In the opener, the Penmen built a 5-0 lead with two runs in the second and three in the sixth. Hana Wright (Hillsboro, OR/Valley Catholic) (Hillsboro, OR/Valley Catholic) accounted for the Setters' lone run in the seventh as she blasted a solo homerun for her tenth of the season. Wright tied the single season school record with 10 homeruns this season. Caitlin McCann (San Mateo, CA/Notre Dame) (San Mateo, CA/Notre Dame) fell to 11-5 on the season as she tossed 5 1/3 innings, allowing five runs on 10 hits, while striking out two. Kayla Hill (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison High School) (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) retired the only two batters she faced in the sixth.
In the nightcap, the Penmen took a 1-0 in the second on a solo homerun. The Setters rallied in the fourth to tie the game at one. Samantha Garcia (Rancho Cucamonga, CA/Rancho Cucamonga) (Rancho Cucamonga, CA/Rancho Cucamonga) drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a sac bunt. Rachael McMahon (Corona, CA/Esperanza) (Corona, CA/Esperanza) tied the game as she doubled in Garcia. Southern New Hampshire hit another solo homerun in the sixth and took game two 2-1. Chelsea Shea (Babylon, NY/West Babylon) tossed a complete game as she allowed two runs on five hits and struck out one as she falls to 6-7 on the season.
The Setters will await the results on Sunday's Northeast-10 Conference games for a potential berth in the NE-10 Playoffs.
