WEST HAVEN, Conn.- Brittany Shields (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) set a new career-high with 17 rebounds as the Setters bounced back from a two-game skid to down the Chargers of New Haven 53-42 in Northeast-10 Conference action. Pace improves to 16-5 on the season and 13-4 in the NE-10, while the Chargers fall to 2-19 and 2-15 in conference play.
The Setters led throughout the opening half as they held a slim 11-9 lead near the midway point. Pace pulled away with a 17-4 run to take a 28-13 lead with just over three minutes to play. New Haven closed the gap as they scored the five points as Pace took a 28-18 lead into the break.
New Haven rallied early in the second half as they pulled to within four points at 39-35 with just over 11 minutes to play in the game. The Setters regained control of the game as Shields converted a pair of three-point plays in a 10-2 run to push the lead to 49-37 with five minutes remaining in the game. Pace held off the Chargers down the stretch as they stand alone in third place in the NE-10.
For Pace, Shields led the way with 17 points and a set a new career-high with 17 rebounds in the contest. Maral Javadifar (Flushing, NY/The Mary Louis Academy) (Flushing, NY/Mary Louis Academy) totaled 14 points and chipped in seven rebounds, while Carol Johnson (New City, NY/Cardinal Spellman) totaled 10 points and six boards.
The Setters return to action on Wednesday, February 9 as they will host the Owls of Southern Connecticut at 5:30 pm. The teams will battle for third place in the NE-10 as Pace trails Southern Connecticut by one game in the standings.
