Williams Scores 18 as Setters Down Panthers

GARDEN CITY, N.Y.- Keon Williams (Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack/Iona College) (Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack/Iona College) led the Setters with 18 points, and seven rebounds as the Setters held off a late Adelphi run for a 56-49 victory. The Setters improve to 5-3 overall, and 3-3 in the Northeast-10, while the Panthers fall to 2-6 overall, and 1-4 in the Northeast-10.

A low scoring first half saw the Setters and the Panthers trade the lead back and forth. The Setters battled back from a four point deficit as Denzel Primus-Devonish (Riverdale, MD/St. John's College) (Riverdale, MD/St. John's College) converted a three point play to tie the game up at 11 with 09:43 left in the first half. Pace pushed the lead to five after an Eric Dansby (Hoover, AL/Hoover) (Hoover, AL/Hoover) three, and a Jonathan Merceus (Union, NJ/Union) lay-up give Pace a 18-13 with 6:20 left. Adelphi sliced the score to within two, but Williams went 3-for-4 from the line in the final 1:41 to give the Setters on five point lead going at halftime.

In the second half, the Setters continued to build on their first half advantage as they stretched their lead to 17 on a Merceus put-back with 7:19 left in the game. The Panthers rallied back, pulling to within three points with under a minute to play. The Setters held on for the victory as Williams got a basket with 18 seconds left and Primus-Devonish made both his free throws with seven second to play to seal the game for the Setters.

For Pace, Williams also added three steals, and went 8-for-12 from the charity stripe, while Primus-Devonish finished with 10 points, and five rebounds

The Setters return to action on Wednesday, December 12 as they travel to Dobbs Ferry, NY to take on the Mercy College Mavericks in a non-conference matchup at 7:30 pm.
