WORCESTER, Mass.- The Pace women's basketball team lost their first game of the season in a 77-51 loss to the Greyhounds of Assumption College in Northeast-10 Conference action. Pace falls to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the NE-10, while the Greyhounds improve their mark to 5-0 and 3-0 in conference play.
The Greyhounds jumped out to an early lead at 11-6 five minutes into the opening half. The Setters sliced the scored down to a point at 15-14 on a free throw by Allison Cleary (New Windsor, NY/Cornwall Central) (New Windsor, NY/Cornwall Central). Assumption extended their lead with an 18-4 run to pull ahead 33-18 and took a 39-26 lead into halftime.
Assumption extended their lead to 50-30 early in the second half of play. The Setters rallied closing to with 50-37 with 12:35 to play on a Jessica Scannell (Cork, Ireland/St. Vincents) (Cork, Ireland/St. Vincent's/Iona College) triple. The Greyhounds stretched the score back to 20 points at 59-39 with eight and a half minutes to play and went to hand the Setters their first loss of the season.
For Pace, Brittany Shields (Cold Spring NY/Haldane) led the Setters with 10 points along with three rebounds, three assists and two steals. Scannell hit a pair of triples, finishing with eight points and three boards, while Yuni Sher (Poughkeepsie, NY/Long Island Lutheran) grabbed eight rebounds in the game.
The Setters return to action on Wednesday, November 28 when they will host the Owls of Southern Connecticut State University at 5:30 pm at the Goldstein Fitness Center.
