WEST HAVEN, Conn.- The Pace University women's volleyball team fell in the Northeast-10 Championship Semifinals to the Panthers of Adelphi University 3-1. The Panthers advance to 24-10 and move on to the NE-10 finals against top-seeded University of New Haven on Saturday night. The Setters fall to 17-18 on the season.
In the opening set, Adelphi took an early lead as they were ahead 9-3 and 17-7. The Setters closed to within 17-13 but the Panthers pushed the score to 21-16 and took the opening set 25-18. The second set saw back and forth scoring by both teams but the Panthers took a three point lead at 14-11. The Setters took control the rest of the set as they battled back to tie the score at 14 and jumped out to a 19-15 lead. Pace evened the match as they took set two 25-17.
The Panthers took a 13-10 lead in the third set but the Setters sliced the score to 13-12. Adelphi extended their lead to 20-14 and took the third set by a score of 25-16. Adelphi jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the fourth set but the Setters battled back to trail by a score of 12-8. Adelphi built an 18-10 lead but Pace again rallied to pull to within four points at 21-17. The Panthers pushed ahead to take the fourth set 25-20 and take the match 3-1.
Senior Nora Rugova (Mt. Kisco, NY/Fox Lane) (Mt. Kisco, NY/Fox Lane) led the Setters with 11 kills along with 22 digs and four aces, while freshman Megan Kurz (San Diego, Calif./Patrick Henry) (San Diego, CA/Patrick Henry) added nine kills and five digs. Senior Tamilee Webb (Hartsdale, NY/Ardsley) (Hartsdale, NY/Ardsley) totaled eight kills and three blocks, while Brooke Speyerer (Winter Haven, FL/Lake Region) (Winter Haven, FL/Lake Region) finished with 33 assists in the match. Senior Elyse Rowland (Antioch, CA/Deer Valley) netted 18 digs for the Setters.
