Pleasantville, N.Y.- Senior Brittany Shields (Cold Spring, NY / Haldane) kicked off the season with a double-double in the home-opener win over the Dolphins of Le Moyne College, 49-37. The Setters start off the season 1-0 overall and 1-0 in the NE-10 while the Dolphins drop to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
The Setters managed to take and hold the lead throughout the entire game which started off with a 6-0 run in the first quarter. Halfway through the half, the Dolphins chipped away to come within two points to make it 11-9 at 7:33. The Dolphins would only score one more point in the rest of the half while the Setters were able to put 14 more points on the board, their largest lead of the game, to go into halftime 25-10.
Though both teams pulled down 20 rebounds in the half, Pace shot 11-26 from the field while Le Moyne only shot 4-29.
The Setters maintained a healthy lead throughout the second half but the Dolphins were able to come within six points a few times. The Setters solidified the win by going up by as much as 14 points in the final ten minutes of the game.
Pace scored 28 points in the paint to Le Moyne's 20 and totaled 14 points from the bench to their six, respectively.
Shields finished with 15 points, ten rebounds, two assists and a block while Brianna Harris (Brentwood, NY/Mary Louis Academy) (Brentwood, NY / Mary Louis Academy) recorded 11 points and five rebounds on the night. Jessica Scannell (Cork, Ireland/St. Vincents) (Cork, Ireland / St. Vincents) tallied nine assists and six rebounds, while Yuni Sher (Poughkeepsie, NY/Long Island Lutheran) (Poughkeepsie, NY / Long Island Lutheran) totaled nine points and six rebounds in her collegiate debut. Jeane Drury (Flanders, NJ/Morris Catholic) (Flanders, NJ / Morris Catholic) and Margo Hackett (Pawling, NY / Pawling) both scored seven points for the Setters.
The Setters host non-conference Felician College on Saturday, November 17 at 1:30 pm. This game will serve as a Thanksgiving can drive; bring canned food and receive reduced admission. There will also be a Hoop Head Camp reunion as well as many contests and give-aways throughout the day.
