EASTON, Mass.- The Pace University women's basketball came up short in a 48-47 loss to the Stonehill College Skyhawks in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Setters fall 15-4 overall and 12-3 in the NE-10, while the Skyhawks improve to 10-9 and 6-9 in conference play.
The Setters built a 21-10 lead midway through the opening half behind a pair of Kerri White (Flushing, NY/Archbishop Molloy) (Flushing, NY/Mary Louis Academy/Manhattan College) three-pointers. The Skyhawks rallied as they pulled even at 23 but the Setters pushed ahead to take a slim 28-27 lead at the break.
Stonehill came out strong to start the second half as they used a 5-0 run to take a 33-28 lead. Pace battled back to even the score at 33 on a Brittany Shields (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) basket. The Skyhawks took back the lead and extended it to their largest of the game at 45-37 with seven and a half minutes to play in the game.
Pace chipped away and pulled to within two points at 46-44 on a Shields lay-up with just over a minute on the clock. The Skyhawks answered with a hoop, pushing it back to four points with 38 seconds remaining in the game. The Setters came up short on several attempts down the stretch until White connected on a three-pointer at 1.4 seconds but the Setters will fall short by a point.
For Pace, Shields posted a double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds along with three steals. White finished with 12 points, while Victoria Jones (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) totaled 11 points and three rebounds.
The Setters are back in action on Tuesday, January 31 when Pace will host American International College for a Northeast-10 Conference game at 5:30 pm.
