Pleasantville, N.Y.- Kai Smith (Upper Marlboro, MD/St. Mary's Ryken) (Upper Marlboro, MD/St. Mary's Ryken) scored 17 points and added four assists to help the Setters of Pace University secure the win over the Dolphins of Le Moyne College. Pace is now 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference and Le Moyne drops to 0-1 overall and in conference play.
Adrian Mills (Woodbridge, VA/Paul VI) (Woodbridge, VA/Paul VI) and Keon Williams (Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack/Iona College) (Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack/Iona College) added 15 points apiece and a combined five steals for the Setters. Delroy Daley (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond) (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond), Kevin Clark (Dunmore, PA/Dunmore/St. Johns University) (Dunmore, PA/Dunmore/St. Johns University) and Jonathan Merceus (Union, NJ/Union) (Union, NJ/Union) adding 9 points each were instrumental in the 84-59 win over the Dolphins. Williams grabbed a team high of five rebounds with Mills and Daley following with four each. Denzel Primus-Devonish (Riverdale, MD/St. John's College) added five points, five assists and one steal for the Setters.
The Setters broke an early lead over the Dolphins to make the score 34-12 halfway through the first half. Four three-point field goals by Smith and two by Clark helped keep the Setters intensity high. The Dolphins attempted to lessen the point margin but the Setters took the biggest lead with 1:07 left in the half with 27 points.
The second half started off with a three-pointer by Dolphins Brian Zapisek and a layup by Derrek Tartt. Zapisek led the Dolphins in points with 12 while Tartt and Chris Johnson finished with eight each.
Merceus scored four of the next five possessions for the Setters. Pace held the biggest lead of the game with a three-point field goal by Smith to put the Setters up 30 at the 12 minute mark. The Dolphins slowly tried to lessen the margin through the rest of the game but were unsuccessful in their efforts.
The Setters will travel to American International November 22 to take on the Yellow Jackets at 7:30 pm.
