PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- David Lopez (Ozone Park, N.Y./Christ the King)
(Ozone Park, NY/Christ the King) recorded seven tackles
and one interception, while forcing a pair of fumbles and
recovering another as the Setters fell on opening day 57-0 to the
Warriors of East Stroudsburg University. The Setters open the
season 0-1, while the Warriors start 2010 at 1-0.
The Setter defense was strong early as three of the first five
possessions by the Warriors' offense ended in fumbles that Pace
would recover. The Warriors would get on the board midway
through the first quarter as an errant snap on a Pace punt attempt
would go out of the back of the end zone for a safety and a 2-0
lead. East Stroudsburg would get 24 points in the second quarter,
including a pair of late touchdown passes from Matt Marshall.
Marshall would throw five TD passes for the games, while the
Warriors would get a late fumble recovery and a pair of field goals
by Taylor Groff on the day.
For the Setters, Jason
Washington (Bronx, NY/Mamaroneck/Iona College) led the
Pace ground game with 72 yards on 21 carries. Jake Parrott (Garwood, N.J./Arthur Johnson)
(Garwood, NJ/Arthur Johnson) and Patrick
Lupfer (Mineola, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) each recorded
four receptions, with Parrott leading with 72 yards and Lupfer
totaled 38.
Defensively, the Setters were led by Yves
Delpeche (Brooklyn, NY/Canarsie/HVCC) and Jonfrey
Sanchez (Bogota, NJ/Bogota), who each recorded nine
tackles. Sanchez also forced and recovered a fumble in the
game.
The Setters return to action on Friday, September 10 when Pace
travels to Stonehill College for a non-conference game at 7 pm.
