SECOND HALF RALLY COMES UP SHORT AS PACE FALLS TO AIC

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- The Setters rallied in the second half but fell in the final seconds on a basket by Adriana Johnson with 3.9 seconds left in the game as American International beat Pace 51-50 in Northeast-10 action. Pace falls to 8-1 overall and 5-1 in the NE-10, while the Yellow Jackets improve to 7-2 and 5-1 in conference play.

Both teams started out slow as Lisa Welsome (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) netted the first points of the game with a trifecta three and a half minutes into the game. Pace would take a 5-2 lead before the Yellow Jackets answered with five points to go up 6-5. The teams played tight the rest of the way with American International pulling ahead late to take a 22-18 lead into the break.

The Yellow Jackets opened the second half strong as they would build a 32-23 lead with 14:41 left in the game. The Setters cut the lead to one with an 8-0 burst but AIC would answer, extending their lead back to eight points with just over nine minutes remaining in the game.

The Setters would battle back as they trailed by as much as six points in the final five and half minutes of play. Pace would trail 49-44 with 2:43 left in the game following a Rhea Pascal basket. Pace would rally as Carol Johnson (New City, NY/Cardinal Spellman) (New City, NY/Cardinal Spellman) converted a pair of lay-ups to pull the Setters to within one at 49-48. After a Yellow Jackets' missed shot, Pace would take the lead as Brittany Shields (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) hit a lay-up with 10.4 seconds left in the game. AIC's Johnson would score the game-winner on a lay-up with 3.9 seconds on the clock to beat the Setters.

For Pace, Shields led the Setters with 12 points and six rebounds, while Welsome finished with 10 points and two steals. Johnson netted eight points and five boards, while Maral Javadifar (Flushing, NY/Mary Louis Academy) totaled six points and five rebounds.

The Setters return to action on Sunday, December 12 when Pace will travel to Oakdale, NY for a non-conference game against Dowling College at 2:00 pm.
