WEEKEND PREVIEW: Pace Basketball Teams Host SCSU, Swimming and Diving Heads to Saint Peter's

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The winter sports season is in full swing this weekend, as three Saturday events await the Setters. Pace's swimming and diving squads return to action for the first time in three weeks, while women's and men's basketball host a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader inside the Goldstein Fitness Center.

Pace Women's Basketball vs. Southern Connecticut State University | Saturday, 1:30 p.m. | Live Stats | Video
Looking to improve on their 3-1 record at home, the Setters begin Saturday's doubleheader against the Owls at 1:30. Pace is 3-6 overall on the year and 2-3 in conference play. Pace fell at New Haven on Tuesday night, 65-55. Alexandra Monteleone (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) and Jackie DelliSanti (Commack, NY/Commack) combined for 37 points and each had five rebounds to lead Pace's offensive effort. Lauren Schetter (Beacon, NY/Beacon High School) also had nine points while dishing out a team-high four assists.

SCSU is 5-3 this season and sit at 2-3 against the NE10. After opening the year with five straight wins, the Owls have dropped their last three following Tuesday's 71-49 loss to AIC. Southern Connecticut's Kiana Steinauer leads the NE10 with 13.9 rebounds per game.

Pace Men's Basketball vs. Southern Connecticut State University | Saturday, 3:30 p.m. | Live Stats | Video
Winners of six straight, the Setters return home to take on the Owls in the backend of Saturday's action. Pace is 7-2 overall and 4-1 against the NE10. Pace erased a nine-point deficit on Tuesday night en route to a 57-52 win at New Haven. Brandon Jacobs (Cambria Heights, NY/Long Island Lutheran) was a playmaker all over the court as the sophomore collected 20 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals to lead the Blue and Gold. Peyton Wejnert (Point Pleasant, NJ/Southern Regional) and Austin Gilbertson (Etters, PA/Trinity) joined Jacobs in double-figures, scoring 12 points each. The Setters held New Haven to a season-low point total while forcing 17 turnovers.

The Owls are 4-5 overall and 3-2 against the NE10 in 2018. SCSU has won two straight, most recently defeating AIC on Tuesday, 72-61. The Owls feature a pair of the conference's top early-season performers, as Isaiah McLeod leads the NE10 in points per game (23.3) and Luke Beesley sits atop the conference in rebounds per game (10.0) and field-goal percentage (76.6).

Pace Swimming & Diving at Saint Peter's University | Saturday, 1 p.m.
Seeing their first competition since Nov. 17, the Setters head to New Jersey to take on Saint Peter's. The men's squad enters the weekend at 1-2 on the season while the women's team sports a 2-1 record.

Pace last competed in the USMMA Memorial Invitational. While the event was not scored, the Setters had solid showings in the 12-team field. Jana Ciric (Nis, Serbia/Gimnazija "Svetozar Markovic") and Joana Krause Massaguer (Premia de Mar, Spain/Institut Premia de Mar) each had a pair of solo wins and contributed to the 200-medley relay unit that placed second. Alexis Heiney (Ivoryton, Conn/Mercy) also had a pair of second place efforts in the one and three-meter dives. On the men's side, Joshua Lozano (Helotes, TX/O'Connor) had a second-place finish in the 200-fly, while Pace's 400-free relay unit placed third and the 200-medley relay squad earned a fourth-place finish.

The Setters saw Saint Peter's at the USMMA Memorial Invitational, as Saturday also marks the Peacocks' first return to the pool since the Nov. 17 event. The Saint Peter's men are 4-0 on the season, while their women's team is 0-4.
