WORCESTER, Mass.- Patrick Lupfer (Mineola, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) (Mineola, NY/Kellenberg) hauled in 10 passes for 156 yards and three touchdowns as the Setters fell to the Greyhounds of Assumption College 59-31 in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Setters fall to 0-8 overall and 0-7 in the NE-10, while the Greyhounds fall to 3-5 and 3-4 in conference play.
Assumption struck first with a pair of early touchdowns for a 14-0 lead. Jordan Raynor (Browns Mills, NJ/Pemberton) (Browns Mills, NJ/Pemberton) led the Setter offense to their first score of the game as he capped a six-play, 66-yard drive with a 31-yard touchdown pass to Lupfer. The Greyhounds added a pair of rushing touchdowns to take a 28-7 lead early in the second quarter.
Pace rallied back as Blair Wynn (Englewood, NJ/St. Joseph Regional) scored on the ground from five yard out to wrap up a nine-play, 75-yard drive with 9:29 left in the second quarter. Raynor pulled the Setters back to within one score as he connected with Lupfer from 12-yards out as Pace trailed 28-21 with 4:31 left in the half. The teams traded field goals as Reza Zoroufie (Antioch, TN/Antioch/Stony Brook Univ.) (Antioch, TN/Antioch/Stony Brook Univ.) booted a 37-yard field goal as time expired in the first half to pull the Setters to within seven at 31-24 at halftime.
Assumption scored four touchdowns in the second half with two coming in the third and two in the final quarter. Raynor and Lupfer capped off their big days as the duo hooked up for the third time in the game on a 22-yard pass connection with 9:34 left in the game to account for the final tally.
For the Setters, Raynor completed 22-of-41 passes for 328 yards and three touchdowns. Matt Tarpley (Caruthersville, MO/Wayzata/Univ. of Mississippi) (Caruthersville, MO/Wayzata/Univ. of Mississippi) finished with eight receptions for 100 yards, while Wynn totaled 66 yards on 19 carries and one touchdown.
On defense, David Lopez (Ozone Park, NY/Christ the King) (Ozone Park, N.Y./Christ the King) led the Setters with 15 total tackles, 11 solo. Vince Romano (Davenport, N.Y./Oneonta) finished with 10 tackles, including two for losses of five yards.
The Setters return home for Homecoming next Saturday, November 3 as they will host the Skyhawks of Stonehill College at 12 pm. The festivities kick-off at 8 am on Saturday with the Pace SAAC 5K Fun Run and is followed by Dean for Student Lisa Bardill Moscaritolo's Chili-Cook-off in the parking lot. Z100 and WFAS street teams will be playing music in the tailgate lot and have giveaways prior to the game. Prior to the 12 pm kick-off, Pace Athletics will honor its football seniors with a pregame ceremony to recognize their Pace careers. WFAS AM 1230 will once again carry the game live on the radio with the pregame show featuring Mike McGinnis and Chris D'Angelo kicking off at 11 am.
