MANCHESTER, N.H.- The Setters fell to the Hawks of Saint Anselm College 48-21 in Northeast-10 Conference action. Pace falls to 0-7 overall and 0-6 in the NE-10, while the Hawks improve to 1-6 and 1-5 in conference play.
The teams traded points in the opening quarter as Saint Anselm's Stephen Cuipa tossed a short touchdown pass. The Setters capitalized on a Hawk muffed punt as they recovered the ball at the Saint Anselm 11-yard line. Blair Wynn (Englewood, NJ/St. Joseph Regional) rushed it in from six yards out to tie the score at 7-7.
Saint Anselm returned the ensuing kickoff for an 82-yard touchdown for a 14-7 Hawk lead. Pace took advantage of another muff punt by the Hawks as Jordan Raynor (Browns Mills, NJ/Pemberton) (Browns Mills, NJ/Pemberton) ran it in three plays later from 16 yards out to knot the score at 14 after one quarter.
Saint Anselm took the lead early in the second quarter on a Greg Bell touchdown run and added two more rushing touchdowns in the third quarter. The Hawks' Cuipa tossed his second touchdown of the game and the Saint Anselm defense scored on a fumble recovery to take a 48-14 lead after three quarters.
The Setters got on the board again in the fourth quarter as Brian Beeker (Spring Hill, FL/Springstead) (Spring Hill, FL/Springstead) had a key 51-yard run early in the final quarter to set up Pace's final scoring drive. Patrick Lupfer (Mineola, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) (Mineola, NY/Kellenberg) scored on a 14 yard touchdown run two plays later.
For Pace, Beeker led the Setters with 16 carries for 96 yards, while Wynn totaled 81 rushing yards on 19 carries. Lupfer rushed twice for 35 yards and caught seven passes for 80 yards.
On defense, Vince Romano (Davenport, N.Y./Oneonta) had nine tackles, including fumble recovery, and David Lopez (Ozone Park, N.Y./Christ the King) had six tackles along with an interception for the Setters.
The Setters are on their bye week next Saturday and return to action on Saturday, October 27 when they will travel to Worcester, MA for a Northeast-10 Conference game against Assumption College at 1 pm.
