SCIARRETTA TOSSES ONE-HITTER IN WIN OVER ADELPHI

Box Score

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- The Setters outlasted the Adelphi Panthers in a pitching duel, winning 1-0 behind a one hitter by starter Michael Sciarretta (Stamford, CT/Stamford) (Stamford, CT/Stamford). The Setters improved to 14-23-1, 6-14 NE-10 on the season while the Panthers dropped to 26-11-2, 15-6-1 NE-10.

Sciarretta and Panthers starter Stephen Bove both came out strong right from the start as both hurlers tossed shutout baseball through seven innings of play. Sciarretta had a no-hitter going into the seventh inning, when with one out, Adelphi's Jamie Liebowitz broke up the bid with a clean single to center for the Panthers' lone hit of the game.

In the eighth, Pace was able to capitalize on an Adelphi error to put them in prime position to put a run up on the board. James Pjura (Shelton, CT/Shelton) (Shelton, CT/Shelton) walked to lead off the inning and was lifted for a pinch runner by Patrick Chaputian (Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore) (Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore). On the ensuing pick-off attempt, Bove's throw was errant, allowing Chaputian to move to third base. After one out was recorded, Robert Horn (Stamford, CT/Westhill) (Stamford, CT/West Hill) was able to lay down a beautiful suicide squeeze bunt, driving in Chaputian for the game's lone run.

Sciarretta (2-5) tossed a one-hit shutout through eight innings of work, while striking out five. MacKenzie King (Blairstown, NJ/North Warren Regional) came on in relief and pitched a flawless ninth to seal the victory for the Setters and earn his second save of the season. Bove (3-3) went 7+ innings, allowing one unearned run on four hits.

Pace will return to action on Saturday, April 30 when they travel to North Andover MA for a NE-10 Conference doubleheader against Merrimack starting at 12 pm.
