Box Score Pleasantville, NY - The Pace baseball team bested the Greyhounds of Assumption College this afternoon 1-0 in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup. Pace improves to 11-16-1 overall and 5-8 in the NE-10 as the Greyhounds fall to 6-19 overall and 3-8 in the conference.
Today's game was quite the pitching duel as neither team pushed across a run till the sixth inning. Fortunately for the Setters the lone run would belong to them in the bottom of the sixth on three hits. Kyle Turnier (Waterford, CT/Waterford) (Waterford, CT/Waterford) started things off by singling up the middle which was followed by a Steven Martinez (Bronx, NY/Archbishop Stepinac) (Bronx, NY/Archbishop Stepinac) single through the right side advancing Turnier to third. Kenny Wright (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) would then drive in Turnier with a single of his own through the right side.
In the top of the ninth inning the Greyhounds were making a comeback by batting two men on. With the tying run on third, Assumption hit a single through the right side however a bullet throw from right field to catcher Michael Rodriguez (East Hampton, NY/East Hampton) (East Hampton, NY/East Hampton) would end the game in dramatic fashion.
On the mound, MacKenzie King (Blairstown, NJ/North Warren) threw a complete game shutout with 10 strikeouts. King became the all-time strikeout leader for Pace University with 202, breaking Dustin Corbett's current record of 199.
The Setters returns to action Wednesday, April 13th when they match up again against Assumption College in Worcester, MA at 3:30 pm.
