PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.-Sophomore quarterback Jordan Raynor (Browns Mills, N.J./Pemberton) (Browns Mills, N.J./Pemberton) tossed for 253 yards and one touchdown as the Setters fell to Assumption College 41-10 in Northeast-10 Conference action. Pace falls to 1-4 overall and 0-3 in the NE-10, while the Greyhounds improve to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
Assumption would capitalize on Pace's opening kickoff fumble as the Greyhounds recovered the ball deep in Pace territory. Matt Tuleja would score on a five-yard touchdown run to put the Greyhounds up 6-0. They would add to the lead later in the quarter as Mike Bates recorded an interception and returned it for a 41-yard touchdown as the Greyhounds would lead 13-0 after the opening quarter.
Early in the second, Assumption's Sam Previte finished off a Greyhounds drive with a one-yard touchdown run for a 20-0 lead. Pace would get on the scoreboard as Raynor connected on 36-yard touchdown pass to Patrick Lupfer (Mineola, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) (Mineola, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) to cap off an eight-play, 82-yard drive for the Setters with 11:16 left in the second quarter. The Setters would pull to within 10 as Ali Mourtada (Foxboro, Mass./Foxboro) (Foxboro, Mass./Foxboro) nailed a 41-yard field goal late in the quarter to slice the lead to 20-10 at the break.
Assumption would add to their lead in the second half as quarterback Kevin Bumpus would run for two touchdowns and throw for another score as Pace was held off the scoreboard in the second half.
For Pace, Lupfer had six catches for 68 yards, and one touchdown, while Cameron Davis (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL/Providence) (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL/Providence) finished four receptions for 34 yards. Running back Blair Wynn (Englewood, NJ/St. Joseph Regional) ran the ball 10 times for 32 yards. On defense side of the ball, David Lopez (Ozone Park, N.Y./Christ the King) (Ozone Park, N.Y./Christ the King) had another big day finishing with 15 tackles, and one forced fumble, while Vincent Romano (Davenport, N.J./Oneonta) totaled 13 tackles.
Pace returns to action on Saturday October 15, when they travel to Easton, MA for a Northeast-10 Conference game against the Stonehill College Skyhawks at 1:00 pm.
