SETTERS FALL TO SAINT ANSELM ON HOMECOMING

SANTOS NAMED HOMECOMING MVP

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- The Setters were led by Homecoming MVP Eric Santos (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) (Huntington, NY/Huntington), who rushed for 74 yards and a touchdown as Pace fell to the Hawks of Saint Anselm College 47-21 in Northeast-10 Conference action. Pace falls to 1-6 overall and 0-5 in conference play, while the Hawks improve to 1-6 and 1-4 in the NE-10.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Hawks broke through in the second quarter as Greg has a pair of rushing touchdowns for a 13-0 lead for the Hawks. The Setters would rally late in the quarter as Santos capped a 13-play, 76-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run with 2:37 to play in the half. Saint Anselm would answer right back as Mike Pierce tossed a 23-yard touchdown pass to Marc Wilson as the Hawks would head into the break with a 20-7 lead.

Saint Anselm extended their lead in the third quarter as Pierce tossed a touchdown and later in the quarter rushed for a score as the Hawks led 33-7 after third quarters of play.

The Hawks' defense intercepted a Jordan Raynor (Browns Mills, N.J./Pemberton) (Browns Mills, N.J./Pemberton) pass for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter but the Setters would answer on their next possession. Raynor capped a 10-play, 67-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown leap as Pace trailed 40-14.

Saint Anselm tacked on a score on a Wilson rushing touchdown but Raynor would hit Patrick Lupfer (Mineola, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) (Mineola, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) on a 19-yard touchdown play with 1:52 left in the game to account for the final points of the afternoon.

For Pace, Santos rushed for 74 yards on 15 carries and one touchdown, while catching one pass for 15 yards to garner Homecoming MVP honors. Raynor finished 14-of-25 passing for 162 yards and one touchdown, while Lupfer caught five passes for 63 yards and one touchdown.

The Setters defense was led by Ryan Cuffe (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's) (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) led the team with 12 tackles, while Vincent Romano (Davenport, N.Y./Oneonta) (Davenport, NY/Oneonta) finished with 11.  David Lopez (Ozone Park, N.Y./Christ the King) added eight tackles along with a pass defense.

Pace returns to action on Saturday October 29 when they will host Bentley University in a Northeast-10 Conference game at 1 pm with a portion of the tickets sales going to the foundation. Representatives from the Foundation will be in attendance, accepting donations for pancreatic cancer research and giving out purple bracelets throughout the game. They will also provide the athletes with metal pins and bracelets prior to the game.
