Box Score SETTERS' BATS BEAT ECKERD, 12-4
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd College baseball team couldn't
keep up with visiting Pace University (10-3) as the Tritons were
soundly defeated 12-4 at home on Tuesday night.
Starting Triton hurler Philip Weylie matched Setters' starter
Dustin Corbett (Vestal, NY/Vestal) into the fourth inning when the Pace batting lineup
figured out Weylie's approach. The Setters tapped him for three
total runs in his four and two-thirds innings of play. It was not a
bad outing for Weylie, but the Tritons would not be able to come
back from the deficit which handed Weylie the loss.
The Tritons only mustered one run in the first six innings of the
contest but managed to add three more in the bottom of the seventh
innings as they soundly hit Setters reliever Angelo Fusaro (Stamford, CT/Westhill). The
runs in the seventh pulled Eckerd to within three runs at 7-4 but
they would not score anymore for the remainder as Pace added some
insurance runs to lock up the 12-4 victory.
Jason Recore had another nice night at the plate for Eckerd as he
went 2-for-4 with a run scored, and designated hitter Mickey
Penrose was 2-for-3 and he also had a run scored.
Eckerd (7-18, 1-5 SSC) has a chance to regroup and get ready for a
weekend home series with #16 Lynn University. First game is
scheduled to start Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Turley Field on
the Eckerd College campus.
