GRAND LAKE, Colo. – In just the third year of the program's existence, the Pace University women's lacrosse team has landed the first two Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-Americans, as juniors
Casey Gelderman (Farmingville, NY/Sachem High School East) and
Abby Haimson (Montville, NJ/Montville) were named to the 2017 IWLCA Division II All-American Team, as announced by the IWLCA on Thursday. Gelderman was selected as a Second-Team All-American, while Haimson garnered All-American Third-Team honors.
Gelderman qualified for All-American consideration after being named to the 2017 IWLCA Division II All-North Region First Team. She adds this award to her 2017 Northeast-10 All-Conference First-Team and 2017 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) All-Star First-Team selections. Gelderman set a new program record with 61 goals this season, which currently has her tied for second in the NE10. She also set a new record with 65 ground balls, good for second in the league, and her record-setting mark of 66 draw controls are sixth in the conference. Gelderman is also tied for 11th in the conference with 22 caused turnovers. Gelderman earned NE10 Player of the Week and ECAC Offensive Player of the Week recognition this season, and was picked to the NE10 Weekly Honor Roll on four different occasions.
Haimson was selected to be an All-American after being picked to the 2017 IWLCA Division II All-North Region Second Team. She joined Gelderman on the 2017 NE10 All-Conference First Team, as well as the ECAC All-Star First Team. Haimson finished the season with a new program record of 75 points, which stands fifth in the NE10 after the first weekend of the NCAA Division II Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament. Haimson's 60 goals finish one shy of the newly-set single-season record, and ties her for fourth in the NE10. She was named NE10 Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week once this year, and was picked to the NE10 Weekly Honor Roll six times.
The Setters won a program-best 11 games in 2017 and qualified for the 2017 NE10 Conference Championship for the second year in a row. Pace improved from the No. 8-seed to the No. 5-seed this season, and was ranked in the Top 20 in the nation for every week of the season, reaching as high as No. 11 on the IWLCA Division II Coaches Poll.
