PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Pace University women's volleyball team pulled out a huge win over the University of New Haven in a five-set thriller in Tuesday evening's Northeast-10 Conference matchup at the Goldstein Fitness Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1
- The score was tied at seven when the Setters went on to score four unanswered points to take an 11-7 lead after a kill by sophomore
Claudia Fontanet (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina).
- The Chargers did not give up easily, as they came back later in the set after being down, 20-12
- New Haven scored seven straight points and came within one after a ball-handling error on Pace.
- The scoring was back and forth until New Haven took a one point lead, 23-22, after a kill by Mallory Nowicki.
- The Setters closed out the set with three straight points, with the last point coming on a clutch ace from freshman
Danielle Vaiano (Seaford, NY/St. Anthony's).
SET 2
- The game began with even play from both teams until New Haven began to pull away with a four point run to push its lead to 12-7.
- The Setters continued to fight, as they tied the game after a block assist from sophomore
Kathleen Benson (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) and freshman
Samantha Nidini (Houston, TX/Clearlake).
- The set continued to play out neck-and-neck as the score reached 24-24 late in the frame.
- Fontanet and freshman
Tatjana Calimpong-Burke (Waianae, HI/Iolani) each then registered kills, finishing the set with a 26-24 win for a 2-0 lead in the match.
SET 3
- The Chargers opened up the third set aggressively, starting off with a 7-3 advantage over Pace.
- The Setters got together New Haven stretched its lead to 10-6, going on a six-point run to take a 12-10 lead.
- New Haven went on to score three straight points to regain the lead.
- The remainder of the set went in the Chargers' favor as they went on an 8-1 run and won the set, 25-16.
SET 4
- The Setters opened up the fourth frame by outscoring the Chargers, 7-2.
- The Chargers, desperate to stay alive, rallied to take 12-of-14 points to gain a 14-9 advantage.
- New Haven closed out the match, 25-21, after two errors by the Setters and forced the match into a fifth set.
SET 5
- The Setters got back into their offensive flow and blew the doors off of the fifth set with an 8-0 start.
- New Haven scored its first point of the set with a kill by Kristine Rios, but the Setters answered right back after junior
Colette Clarke (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) finished an attack to keep an eight-point lead.
- New Haven came within five, as the score was 13-8 late in the set, but Calimpong-Burke and Fontanet each threw down a kill to help the Setters pull out the victory, 15-9, to claim the match.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Fontanet had a phenomenal showing, as she registered a double-double with a match-best 31 digs, 23 kills, and added a service ace.
- Calimpong-Burke registered a double-double with 13 kills and 24 digs.
- Junior
Sydney Lecker (Littleton, CO/Chatfield) threw down 15 kills and recorded seven digs. She also served up a team-best two aces.
- Freshman
Samantha Nidini (Houston, TX/Clearlake) passed out an outstanding 62 assists, her highest total of the year, adding 20 digs to be the third Setter with a double-double Tuesday evening.

UP NEXT
- The Setters hit the road for more NE-10 action on Friday, Nov. 11, when they visit Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, N.H. at 7 p.m.
- Pace then closes out the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 12, when the Setters visit Franklin Pierce University for a 1 p.m. matchup.
