PLEASANTVILLE, NY- Senior men's basketball players Denzel Primus-Devonish (Riverdale, MD/St. John's College) and Jonathan Merceus (Union, NJ/Union) have been selected to the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Second Team. The duo will be honored on April 22 at the 81st NIT/MBWA Haggerty Awards dinner at the Westchester Marriott, Tarrytown, NY. Both players shined in their senior seasons, posting career-highs in points this past year.
Primus-Devonish averaged a career-best 15.2 points per game in his senior season, along with 3.8 assists, 3.7 rebounds and connected on 34 triples. In the Northeast-10 Conference, he ranked 21st in scoring, 12th in assist and third in steals. Primus-Devonish scored 20+ points in seven games, including a career-high 37 against Dowling on Nov. 10. For his career with the Setters, he totaled 1,369 points, 115 triples, 429 assists, 154 steals. He ranks ninth in school history in points, 11th in triples, fourth in assists and 10th in steals. Primus-Devonish ended his Pace career as one of only two players in school history to total 1,000 points, 100 three-pointers, 400 assists and 100 steals.
Merceus shined in his senior season as he posted career highs with 16.7 points and 8.5 rebounds this season. In the NE-10, he ranked tenth in scoring, seventh in steals and fifth in rebounds, while posting eight double-doubles this season. He finished his career with 1,175 points, 705 rebounds and 106 steals. Merceus ranks 24th in school history in points, sixth in rebounds and 15th in steals.
