Men’s Soccer Battles Southern Connecticut State to NE10 Draw

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – On Wednesday night, Pace University Men's Soccer and Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) traded first-half goals before a physical second half ended without a breakthrough, sending the Setters to a 1-1 draw. Pace moved to 4-1-3 overall and 0-1-1 in Northeast 10 Conference play.

After SCSU generated the first shot on goal, Joe Zweben turned it away in the 23rd minute. Pace found the opener less than seven minutes later when Eric Garcia found the back of the net on a highlight-reel goal to give the Setters a 1-0 advantage.

The lead held until the final seconds of the opening half when SCSU found its response at 44:41, sending the teams into halftime even at one.

The Owls generated more of the pressure after the break, but Zweben kept the match level with saves in the 58th and 67th minutes. Pace was forced to play a man down beginning in the 64th minute following a red card before the SCSU was also reduced to 10 players in the 79th.

Neither side found a deciding goal from there as the contest wrapped up as a 1-1 draw. Zweben finished with three saves across 90 minutes, while Pace was held to five shots and one shot on goal.

Acland Zhang produced a team-high two attempts, with Garcia accounting for the Setters' lone shot on target and goal.

The Blue and Gold now turn their attention to one of their biggest tests of the season, welcoming No. 5 Southern New Hampshire University to Northwell Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 7:00 p.m.
